He writes to try to get the stories out of his head. When he's being a fan he helps run Watch The Skies and assists in the publication of their monthly fanzine. < Back Dr. Eric Haag Science Scientist Eric Haag, PhD, is Professor of Biology at the University of Maryland, College Park, and author of The Other Big Bang: The Story of Sex and Its Human Legacy (2024, Columbia Univ. Press). His lab conducts research on the evolution of animal reproduction and the genes that regulate it. A Nevada native, he attended Oberlin College and earned a Ph.D in molecular, cell, and developmental biology at Indiana University. In his postdoc at the University of Wisconsin he began a long-standing project on the evolution of self-fertile hermaphroditism in nematodes. This work has explored the genetics causes and reproductive consequences of adopting self-fertility. In 2015, Haag’s group began working with the only self-fertile vertebrate, the mangrove killifish. < Back Dr. Gillian Polack Literary Author Dr Gillian Polack is an award-winning Jewish Australian speculative fiction writer. She was the 2020 recipient of the A. Bertram Chandler (lifetime achievement in science fiction) award. Her most recent novel is The Green Children Help Out. Her next (much-delayed) novel will be released in 2025 and contains chocolate. In 2023, her short story from Other Covenants was a finalist for the Sidewise Award, which is wildly appropriate because she is also an ethnohistorian with a special interest in how story transmits culture, both Medieval and modern. Her current research is into how Modern western Germany sees its Jewish past, and also into what speculative fiction novels tell us about world building. Her study of culture in speculative fiction, Story Matrices: Cultural Encoding and Cultural Baggage in the Worlds of Science Fiction and Fantasy was released in 2022. Andrews lives in Virginia with his wife, two cats, eleven guitars, a dozen overflowing bookcases, and hundreds of beer bottles from all over the world. He writes, teaches college chemistry, and is Editor-in-Chief and Publisher of the ten-time Hugo Award finalist online fantasy magazine Beneath Ceaseless Skies. Scott has taught writing for the Odyssey Workshop, Writefest, Clarion West, Odyssey Online Classes and Cat Rambo Academy for Wayward Writers. He has lectured on short fiction, secondary-world fantasy, editing, magazine publishing, audio podcasting, beer, and heavy metal on scores of convention panels at multiple Worldcons, World Fantasy conventions, and regional conventions in the Northeast and Midwest.
