Art Show

The Balticon Art Show showcases two- and three- dimensional art across the science fiction, fantasy, horror, and fandom genres. Paintings, prints, sculpture and unique jewelry will be on display and for sale via silent auction and Quicksale purchase.

This year we are pleased to have Lee Moyer as our Artist Guest of Honor. Come meet him and many of our program participants during our Friday Face Time event on the 5th floor between 9 and 10:30 in the evening, after Opening Ceremonies. Although all of our Guests and Participants are invited to this event, their attendance is optional, so please show your appreciation to those who make themselves available to their fans during the Friday night receptions.

For Artists

ATTENTION ARTISTS! NEW INFO – We have updated our guidelines for space and piece limits. Please see the Art Show Rules page for details.

Registration

Online Art Show registration will be open by the end of February. To register for the Art Show, first create a new account in the Artist Portal (The link will be provided when registration opens). Once the account has been created, returning artists will be able to update their personal information, register for the Art Show, and fill out their control sheet. Receipts for account creation and registration payment will be sent via email. Please check your spam filters if you do not receive an emailed receipt.

If you are exhibiting in the Balticon Art Show for the first time, please include in your Artist Portal account a URL where we can preview your art. While the Balticon Art Show is not juried, a preview is helpful to verify that your art is in the genre, and aids in placement in the show. If you do not have a web site, Etsy site, etc., you can send photos of your art to artshow@balticon.org.

Art Show rules and fees are described on the Art Show Rules page.

If you prefer to register by mail (to pay with a check), first create a new Artist Portal account. Once your account is active, you will be able to download a PDF registration form that you can mail in with your check.

We are no longer accepting registrations by FAX. Also, we do not accept registrations via email. Please do not email credit card information.

We have a new address for mailing registration forms and art. Please send all correspondence to:

For Balticon Members

The Art Show opens to the general Balticon membership at 5 pm on Friday, and runs until 5 pm Sunday. Members may purchase artwork in two ways: Auction or Quicksale.

BIDDING = BUYING. By filling out a bid sheet you agree to pay the amount you wrote on the bid sheet.

For auction, bidding starts as a silent auction where members are encouraged to place written bids on artwork starting at the listed minimum bid (or higher). Bidding is open until 1 pm Sunday. Any art that receives three or more bids automatically goes to our Sunday voice auction at 2pm. Pieces that receive fewer than three bids are “sold” to the highest bid on the bid sheet, and can be paid for and collected after 3pm Sunday.

For Quicksale, members may purchase art that does not have any bids on it without going to auction at the listed quick sale price. Quicksale purchases must be paid for immediately, however artwork must remain on display until 6 pm Saturday. Please ask an Art Show volunteer for assistance when making a Quicksale purchase. Do not touch or remove artwork from its display.

In both cases, use your badge number as your bidder number when placing bids.

No food, drink, or bulky bags are allowed in the Art Show. You may check your bag when you enter the Art Show.

Absolutely NO PHOTOGRAPHY is allowed in the Art Show.

Silent auction bidding closes: Sunday 1:00 pm
Voice auction begins: Sunday 2:00 pm
Auction sales: Sunday 3:00 pm

Please email artshow@balticon.org if you have any questions, comments, or suggestions. See you at Balticon!
