He is the owner and editor-in-chief of Gray Rabbit Publications/Fantastic Books (www.FantasticBooks.biz). Previously, he edited and published Artemis Magazine and SFScope. He also worked on the editorial staffs of Analog, Asimov's, Science Fiction Chronicle, and many others. He consider himself a science fiction author, even though 98% of his published words have been non-fiction. He is the author of three books of presidential history and trivia. His first collection of short fiction, "Wandering Through Time," is now available. He has made more than a dozen appearances in Analog (from which he won two AnLab awards), with several stories in Nature and in recent anthologies. < Back Richard Sparks Literary Author Rowan Atkinson performed Richard's Schoolmaster sketch in John Cleese’s The Secret Policeman’s Ball. To celebrate Rowan’s 70th birthday, the Schoolmaster was nominated in The Guardian in January 2025 as Number One in a list of Rowan's top Ten film appearances. UK TV credits include The Famous Five, The Flying Kiwi, The Optimist, The Worst of Hollywood, and a lifetime of script editing. On being hired by Columbia Pictures TV, Richard moved with his family to Los Angeles in 1992. His lyrics have been recorded by talents as diverse as Dom de Luise, Eric Idle, Vanessa Williams, Plácido Domingo and Hello Kitty. He directed Jack Black in Stravinsky’s The Soldier’s Tale (LACMA). < Back Doc Coleman Literary Author Doc Coleman never dreamed of being a writer. He dreamed of being an actor, of making movies. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. But he had a way with words, and still wanted to tell stories. So he did, and got better at telling them quickly. Doc’s stories appear in The Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences’ Tales from the Archives podcast, and several anthologies including: the Bushido Western Anthology Way of the Gun, Paradise Found: Tales From the Library, and the recently published A Cast of Crows. The Perils of Prague, is the first novel in the Steampunk Comedy/Adventure series The Adventures of Crackle and Bang. The second book, The Kindred of Kali, is in work. < Back The PDX Broadsides 2027 Music Guest of Honor The PDX Broadsides are a Portland pop-folk trio known for tight harmonies, sharp lyrics, and performances that can shift from heartfelt to silly without warning. Since forming in 2011, Christian Lipski, Jessica Hebert, and Hollyanna McCollom have written songs inspired by science, stories, history, mental health, relationships, pop culture, breakfast, killer robots, and the everyday absurdities of being a person. Their music blends folk and pop with comedy, theatrical energy, and lyrics that reward close listening but rarely discourage a singalong. Over the years, the PDX Broadsides have toured throughout the United States and Canada, performing everywhere from cafés, bars, and living rooms to festivals and major conventions. They have appeared as musical guests of honor, toastmasters, and house bands at events including Dragon Con, Rose City Comic Con, Vegas Valley Comic Book Festival, GameStorm, GAfilk, and OryCon. Along the way, they have shared the stage with artists such as The Doubleclicks, Gangstagrass, Kirby Krackle, Marian Call, and Molly Lewis, and earned four Pegasus Award nominations. He lives in Northeast Portland with his wife and daughter. Dr. Jessica F. Hebert, PhD, MCR Jessica is the keyboardist for the PDX Broadsides and provides powerhouse vocals to the band’s tight harmonies, along with a share of the songwriting. Known to fans as “Dr. Jess,” she is also an Assistant Professor in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at OHSU, where she studies how kidney health affects pregnancy and the long-term health of parents and children. An award-winning science communicator and experienced emcee, Jessica has hosted Science on Tap events, conventions across the country, and burlesque shows as her alter ego, Dr. Ella Gantly Wasted. She lives with her husband, son, and their dog, Bucky, who famously has two hearts: one in his chest and one where his brain should be. She brings to the stage a scientist’s curiosity, a performer’s instincts, and a talent for finding the human story in unexpected subjects. Hollyanna McCollom Hollyanna is a vocalist, songwriter, and storyteller whose background in writing and editing helps shape the band’s lyrical voice. Her professional career spans marketing, content strategy, journalism, and editing, and she is the author of four editions of the Moon Portland travel guide. She has a background in theater, costume building, and burlesque, bringing a strong visual and theatrical sensibility to the Broadsides’ performances. Whether she is writing about awkward relationships, her own self-doubt, or something far more peculiar, Hollyanna has a talent for finding the emotional truth inside a funny idea and the funny idea hiding inside an emotional truth.
