Born to Foley, Joanna Fang is an award-winning Foley artist, specializing in performative and custom sound effects for film, TV, documentaries, video games, and virtual reality. She is currently co-leading the Foley department at Sony PlayStation's Creative Arts Sound Studios, working closely with supervising sound editors, audio directors, and game developers to create immersive soundscapes for some of the biggest titles in gaming.
Joanna has contributed to AAA games like God of War Ragnarök, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Helldivers 2, MLB The Show 23+24, Horizon Forbidden West, Firewall Ultra, and Just Cause 2. She’s also left her mark on feature films, with credits including 32 Sounds (2023), Manchester by the Sea (2016), The Invisible Man (2020), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022), and Promising Young Woman (2020), among others. Joanna is a Prime Time Emmy and MPSE Golden Reel award-winning artist, and she actively contributes to the sound community by speaking at industry conferences like GDC 2024, High Score 2023, and AES/NAB. She has been profiled or interviewed by major outlets like Wired Magazine, PBS Nova Now, Slate, Vulture Magazine, and Emmy Magazine.
In addition to her professional work, Joanna is a passionate educator and mentor, sharing her knowledge of Foley techniques with sound design students at universities such as NYU, UC San Diego, San Diego State University, and more.
