Video Schedule

The Balticon 57 video program features a variety of science fiction, fantasy, and horror films and television shows. Showings start at 3pm Friday and continue around the clock through Monday afternoon.

 

3pm Little Nemo, Adventures in Slumberland, 1989

Each night, young Nemo goes to Slumberland and has adventures and befriends the king of Slumberland, Morpheus. But one night Nemo discovers Nightmare Land, and the evil nightmare king, throwing Slumberland and Nemo himself into danger.

5pm Jack the Giant Killer, 1962

Jack, a farm boy turned knight, must protect the beautiful princess Elaine from the schemes of the evil Black Prince Pendragon. Dreadful witches, wicked trolls and fearsome giants are at his command, and Pendragon plans to gain the throne of Cornwall by getting the King to abdicate the throne and allow him his daughter’s hand in marriage. Will Jack be able to save the princess and stop the terrible Pendragon? It’s adventure meets fantasy in this amazing world of magic, monsters – and even leprechauns!

7pm Dr Who An Unearthly Child, 1963

An Unearthly Child starts off with a fantastic episode. (The introduction of The Doctor, the TARDIS, and of course Ian, Barbara and Susan.) It is quite a shock to see The Doctor in his early days be so cranky and at times outright dastardly.

9pm Nope, 2022

The film reunites Jordan Peele with Oscar® winner Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Judas and the Black Messiah), who is joined by Keke Palmer (Hustlers, Alice) and Oscar® nominee Steven Yeun (Minari, Okja) as residents in a lonely gulch of inland California who bear witness to an uncanny and chilling discovery.

11pm Smile, 2022

After witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, Dr. Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon) starts experiencing frightening occurrences that she can’t explain. As an overwhelming terror begins taking over her life, Rose must confront her troubling past in order to survive and escape her horrifying new reality.

1am The Invitation, 2022

8am The Water Babies, 1978

When 12-year-old Tom jumps into a swirling stream, he is suddenly swept away to a fantastical place filled with music, excitement and colorful characters. 9:30am Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, 2016

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident…were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newt’s fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.

Noon Dr Who: The Three Doctors, 1973

The Doctor and UNIT are called upon to investigate strange events surrounding Dr. Tyler’s research into cosmic rays. UNIT HQ comes under attack by an alien force, and the Doctor has no other option but to call on the Time Lords for help. The Time Lords, too, are under attack — from a mysterious power emanating from a black hole in space. With power reserves falling, the only way they can help the Doctor is to break the First Law of Time and allow him to help himself. The First and Second Doctors are lifted out of their time streams and sent to Earth to help the Third. Between the three of them, they must find a solution to the threat that not only endangers UNIT and Earth, but also the future of the Time Lords themselves.

2pm Don’t Worry Darling 2022

Are you ready to live the life you deserve? A 1950s housewife living with her husband in the utopian experimental community of Victory begins to worry that his glamorous company may be hiding disturbing secrets.

4pm The Munsters, 2022

From writer/director Rob Zombie comes the strangest love story ever told. Lily is just your typical 150-year-old, lovelorn vampire looking for the man of her nightmares…that is until she lays eyes on Herman, a seven-foot-tall, green experiment with a heart of gold. It’s love at first shock as these two ghouls fall fangs over feet in this crazy Transylvanian romance. Unfortunately, it’s not all smooth sailing in the cemetery as Lily’s father The Count has other plans for his beloved daughter’s future, and they don’t involve her bumbling beau Herman. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll howl at the moon as The Munsters make their way to Mockingbird Lane!

5:50pm The Munsters: “My Fair Munster”, 1964

Grandpa’s plan to help poor Marilyn to attract a man go awry when his potion ends up being taken by the other members of the family, to disasterous results.

The Mockingbird Heights Gas Company plans to build a gas line under the Munster House and gets a big surprise.

The Munsters: “Herman’s Rival”, 1964 

Lily thinks the family is in financial trouble and gets a job reading palms at a tearoom for extra money and Herman thinks she’s cheating on him.

7:10pm Star Trek: Deep Space 9: “In the Pale Moonlight”, 1998

In an attempt to goad the Romulans into war with the Dominion, Sisko enlists Garak to help him create false evidence of a plot to invade Romulus.

Star Trek: Deep Space 9: “Far Beyond the Stars”, 1998

Distraught by the death of a friend in the Dominion War, Captain Benjamin Sisko contemplates leaving Starfleet. He begins experiencing hallucinations of 20th-century New York City, and is suddenly taken over by his vision: becoming Benny Russell, an African-American science fiction writer in 1953, who is not conscious of his life in the 24th century.

9pm S1mone, 2002

After the lead actress drops out of his latest project, a desperate movie producer replaces her with an entirely CGI-character who becomes a major star. The producer must continue the charade when the public does not realize the actress is CGI-generated and takes on a life of her own….

11pm Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, 2022

Queen Ramonda, Shuri, M’Baku, Okoye and the mighty Dora Milaje fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers after the death of beloved King T’Challa. Banding together with War Dog Nakia and Everett Ross, the heroes strive to forge a new path.

1:40am Wonder Woman 1984, 2020

In 1984, Diana Prince is working at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., while secretly performing heroic deeds as Wonder Woman. And facing a wide array of foes including: Max Lord and The Cheetah.

4am Suicide Squad, 2016

It feels good to be bad… Assemble a team of the world’s most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government’s disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. 6am Birds Of Prey And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn, 2019

8am Pete’s Dragon, 1977

It’s a “Brazzle Dazzle Day” when an orphan named Pete and his best friend, Elliott — an invisible dragon! — wander into the seaside village of Passamaquoddy. Although Pete befriends the lighthouse keeper Nora (Helen Reddy) and her salty old father (Mickey Rooney), the townspeople think he is behind the hilarious “accidents” that keep happening. But after a daring rescue, everyone believes in Pete’s fire-breathing buddy.

10am Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindlewald, 2018

At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings. In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.

12:30pm Dr Who: The Five Doctors, 1983

The Doctor’s past incarnations are taken out of time by a forbidden time scoop device. The fourth Doctor becomes trapped in the vortex but the others find themselves, together with a number of their old companions, with the fifth Doctor and his companions in the Death Zone on their home planet Gallifrey. Here they face a Dalek, a Yeti, a quicksilver Raston Warrior Robot and numerous Cybermen. Also present is the Master, who has been summoned by the High Council of Time Lords to help the Doctor. It turns out that President Borusa is the mysterious operator of the time scoop. He aims to use the Doctors to breach the defences of the Dark Tower–Rassilon’s tomb–so that he can enter there and claim immortality. When he does so, however, he is condemned by Rassilon to eternal existence in the form of a living statue.

2pm An Adventure in Space and Time, 2013

Travel back in time to witness the dramatic birth of Doctor Who. Actor William Hartnell (David Bradley, Filch from the Harry Potter films, Game of Thrones) felt trapped by a succession of tough-guy roles. Wannabe producer Verity Lambert (Jessica Raine, Call the Midwife) was frustrated by the TV industry’s glass ceiling. Both of them were to find unlikely hope and unexpected challenges in the form of a Saturday afternoon drama, time travel and monsters! Allied with a brilliant creative team, they went on to introduce the world to the longest running science fiction series ever, currently in its 60th year and counting.

3:30pm Everything Everywhere All At Once, 2022

A hilarious and big-hearted sci-fi action adventure about an exhausted Chinese American woman (Michelle Yeoh) who is swept up in an insane adventure across the multiverse and finds out that she must access her other selves to save the universe.

6pm The Munsters:  “A Man for Marilyn”, 1966

Grandpa decides to use a magic spell to create the perfect man for Marilyn but as usual things don’t go as planned.

The Munsters: “Just Another Pretty Face”, 1966 

While poking around in Grandpa’s Lab, Herman is jolted with a lightening bolt and is horribly disfigured, ending up looking just like Fred Gwynn.

7pm M3GAN, 2023

M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally. Designed by brilliant toy-company roboticist Gemma, M3GAN can listen and watch and learn as she becomes friend and teacher, playmate and protector, for the child she is bonded to. As Gemma faces pressure at work to deliver a finished version of M3GAN, she suddenly becomes the unprepared caretaker of her newly orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady. Gemma decides to pair the M3GAN prototype with Cady in an attempt to resolve both problems—a decision that will have unimaginable consequences.

9pm Dr Who: “Remembrance of the Daleks”, 1988

From the 25 Anniversary Season, London 1963. The first Doctor is forced to leave Earth, after teachers from his granddaughter’s school discover the TARDIS disguised as a police box sitting in a junkyard… London 1963: The seventh Doctor returns with new companion Ace in tow and with unfinished business. Not for the first time, unusual events are unfolding at Coal Hill School and at Totters Lane junkyard. The Doctor discovers that his oldest foes — the Daleks — are on the trail of hidden Time Lord technology. Technology that he himself left on Earth all those years ago. The Daleks are planning to perfect their own time travel capability, in order to unleash themselves across all of time and space. Can the Doctor — with the help of the local military — stop the Daleks from stealing the Gallifreyan secrets? Or are things much more complicated? Two opposing Dalek factions meet in an explosive confrontation with the fate of the entire universe at stake.

10:30pm Dr Who: “The Two Doctors”, 1985

When the Doctor (Colin Baker) lands on a space station in the Third Zone, he suspects he’s been there before and when he discovers his former assistant, Jamie, he’s certain. Accompanied by Jamie and his present assistant, Peri, the Doctor follows himself (Patrick Troughton) to 20th century Seville. There he discovers his old enemies, the Sontarans, about to dissect him in a genetic operation. But just why are they operating on the Doctor? And how will their findings aid their enslavement of the universe?

1am SS:GB, 2018

What if Nazi Germany had won the war? SS-GB explores an alternative timeline in which the United Kingdom is occupied by Nazi Germany, during the Second World War. Based on the novel by acclaimed spy novelist Len Deighton, this exciting mini-series follows detective Douglas Archer as he investigates a murder that draws him in to a web of political intrigue.

6am Mary Poppins Returns, 2018

In Depression-era London, a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives.

8:30am Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, 2022

Professor Albus Dumbledore (Law) knows the powerful Dark Wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mikkelson) is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?

10:30am Dr Who: “The Day of the Doctor”, 2013

The Doctors embark on their greatest adventure in this 50th Anniversary Special. In 2013, something terrible is awakening in London’s National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space, an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. All of reality is at stake as the Doctor’s own dangerous past comes back to haunt him.

Noon Dr Who: “Twice Upon A Time”, 2018

This Christmas, the Doctor comes face to face with … the Doctor! The epic finale to the Peter Capaldi era of Doctor Who, “Twice Upon a Time,” featuring the return of Pearl Mackie and special guests Mark Gatiss (Sherlock) and David Bradley (Filch in the Harry Potter movies), and introducing the Thirteenth Doctor, played by Jodie Whittaker (Broadchurch). It promises to be an epic adventure you won’t want to miss!

Herman demands a raise in salary and ends up fired because down at “the parlor” they’re “not used to raising people”

The Munsters: “Mummy Munster”, 1965 

Herman is unable to sleep, he takes a sleeping pill made by Grandpa but it has no effect, until he visits a museum and he falls asleep in a mummy case and is mistake for an Egyptian mummy.

The Munsters: “The Sleeping Cutie”, 1964 

Grandpa attempts to end Marilyn’s insomnia with a sleeping potion, but gets mixed up and puts her into a sleep that can only be ended by the kiss from a prince. And it seems they’re fresh out of princes…..
